New Garage Door Cost

How much does a new garage door cost?

Most homeowners nationally pay roughly $1,200–$4,500 installed for a new steel garage door — single-car doors at the lower end, insulated two-car doors higher — and premium wood-look or full-view glass doors can run $4,000–$10,000+. Every door is different, so treat these as typical ranges and get a free, written estimate for the real number.

What moves the number

What affects your new garage door price

Single-car vs. two-car size

A 16-foot two-car door uses roughly twice the material of a single-car door, needs heavier springs to balance it, and takes longer to install — size is the single biggest price lever.

Material & construction

Single-layer steel costs the least. Thicker steel gauge, sandwich construction, composite, and real wood each step the price up — and step up durability, quiet, and curb appeal with it.

Insulation & R-value

Insulated doors cost more up front but matter in our hot-summer, freeze-thaw Four-State climate — especially on attached garages, where the door is effectively a wall of your house.

Windows, hardware & design

Window sections, decorative hardware, premium finishes, and carriage-house overlays are where two doors of the same size can land thousands of dollars apart.

Springs, tracks & headroom

A heavier door needs the right torsion springs and sometimes new tracks. Low-headroom rooms and non-standard openings need extra hardware and labor to do it right.

Old door removal & opener

Haul-away of the old door is usually included in a complete quote — ask. Adding an opener during the install is cheaper than a separate service call later.

Straight talk

Why we can't give you an exact price online

Two identical-looking doors can be quoted thousands apart because of what's behind them: the opening, the springs, the insulation, the brand and build quality. Steel and freight costs have also trended upward for years, so waiting rarely makes a door cheaper. What we can promise: a free, written, no-pressure estimate — and if you're already holding another company's quote, a free second opinion on it.

What actually sets your price

  • Steel and raw-material costs
  • Door size and spring system
  • Insulation and construction grade
  • Design, windows, and finish options
  • Opening condition and headroom

Pricing FAQ

New Garage Door cost questions, answered

Honest answers to what Four-State Area homeowners ask us most about pricing.

How much does it cost to replace a two-car garage door?

Nationally, a 16-foot two-car steel door typically runs about $1,800–$4,500 installed, with insulated and premium designs at the upper end and wood or full-view glass doors above it. Door size, insulation, and design options move the number most. Door Serv Pro currently offers $200 off a two-car door replacement — open the contact list for a free written estimate.

Does the price include removing my old door?

A complete, honest quote should include tear-out and haul-away of the old door and springs — Door Serv Pro's written estimates spell that out line by line. If another company's quote doesn't mention removal, ask before you sign, or send it to us for a free second opinion.

Is an insulated garage door worth the extra cost?

If your garage is attached to the house — or you work in it — usually yes. In the Four-State Area's hot summers and freeze-thaw winters, an insulated sandwich-construction door keeps the rooms above and beside the garage more comfortable, runs quieter, and resists dents better. For a detached storage garage, a well-built non-insulated door is often the smarter spend.

Can I finance a new garage door?

Yes. Door Serv Pro offers flexible monthly payment plans through GoodLeap with quick approval, so you can replace a failing door on your schedule instead of your budget's. We'll walk through the options with your written estimate — see our financing page for details.

How long does a new garage door installation take?

Most standard replacements are done in a few hours: old door out, new door, springs, and tracks in, balance and safety tests, and a walkthrough. Custom, oversized, or low-headroom installations can take longer — we confirm the timeline with your estimate before any work begins.

Why do garage door quotes vary so much between companies?

Usually it's what's in the box: steel gauge, insulation, spring cycle rating, new tracks vs. reused tracks, haul-away, and warranty. A cheap quote that reuses worn parts isn't the same job as a complete one. If you're comparing quotes, our free second opinion matches the scope line for line so you're comparing apples to apples.
